An armed man is believed to be holed up inside a Redford Township home after he assaulted a woman during an attempted robbery, according to police.

Four men were arrested Wednesday after an alleged robbery outside a Redford Township home after police surrounded the scene for hours, believing they were involved with a barricaded gunman.

Police responded to the home around 10:20 a.m. at Riverpark and Grayfield, near West Chicago Street and Telegraph, Redford Police Lt. David Holt said.

“We had a woman who was assaulted by a man with a gun,” Holt said, adding that the victim was struck with the weapon and no shots were fired. She received minor injuries.

There was a second suspect with the armed man, Holt said. The victim, a 21-year-old woman, told police she knew both men.

Police said the men fled inside to a nearby home belonging to one of the suspects.

Believing they were involved with a barricaded gunman situation, police surrounded the house for three to four hours trying to make contact with the suspects, Holt said. Officers later entered the house and did not find the suspects, police said.

Redford Township officers continued their investigation and located the suspects in a vehicle in the area of Fenkell and Wyoming in Detroit.

Two men with the suspects also were arrested after they allegedly became involved in the arrest, police said.

Police continue to investigate and will forward the case to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
