A body found floating in the Detroit River on Monday was identified as a 25-year-old former Oakland University student who police believe jumped from the Ambassador Bridge last month.

Police in Wyandotte confirmed the body found was Nathan Fleer of Rochester, who had been missing since March.

A fisherman reported to police finding the body near a creek between Wyandotte and Ecorse. It was badly decomposed and the identity came through dental records, Wyandotte police Sgt. Rick Weise said.

Rochester Police Chief Steven Schettenhelm said Detroit police reported to his department that Fleer’s vehicle was located on the Ambassador Bridge without him in it.

Schettenhelm said Detroit police believe he had jumped from the bridge between Detroit and Windsor, Canada.

Fleer attended the Honors College at Oakland University. In high school he was active in theater, an obituary said.

His performing included two years as Rochester High's Freddie the Falcon and continued in college as the Oakland University mascot, the Grizz.
