A Dearborn toddler found in a neighbor’s swimming pool Friday has died, Dearborn Police said Saturday.

According to police, the two-year-old girl and her three-year-old brother were able to get out of their home while their parents slept. They climbed a chain link fence and got into their neighbor's back yard.

Once in the yard, the girl climbed a ladder attached to the pool and fell into the water. The owner of the home saw the child, according to police, and rushed out and pulled the girl from the pool and started CPR. Dearborn Police and emergency responders arrived around and took the girl to a hospital.

The three-year old boy was uninjured.

On Saturday around 11:15 a.m., Dearborn Police were notified the child had died. The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy within the next few days. Dearborn Police continue to investigate.

“This is a tragic situation for all the families involved,” Police Chief Ronald Haddad said in a statement.
