Brownstown Township— A new chapel and mausoleum are being blessed this weekend at a cemetery.

Archbishop Allen Vigneron on Saturday plans to bless the new St. John Paul II Mausoleum and Chapel at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery.

The cemetery is owned by the Archdiocese of Detroit and managed by Catholic Funeral and Cemetery Services of Detroit. The mausoleum has more than 550 crypts, 450 niches for urns containing cremated remains and a chapel for services.

The Rev. Timothy Babcock, the Archdiocese’s liaison for cemeteries, says in a statement the chapel is “a beautiful expression of Catholic respect for those who have died. He says it will be “a chapel of comfort and prayer for many for decades to come.”
