Five people were arrested in connection with dog-fighting rings that took place at homes in Westland and Inkster, according to Michigan State Police.

Authorities say they recovered 25 dogs of various breeds after executing a search warrant at both houses on Thursday.

Officers also seized $25,000 in cash from dog-fighting proceeds, dog-fighting equipment and drugs including crack, cocaine and heroin, State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said.

The dogs were in good condition and are being cared for by the Michigan Humane Society, Shaw said.

Police arrested one suspect at the home in Westland and four at the home in Inkster around 9 p.m. Thursday.

The suspects have not yet been charged, Shaw said.
