An 18-year-old man is in serious condition but expected to recover after he was shot in a drive-by early Friday in Harper Woods, according to police.

The victim, a Harper Woods resident, was inside his vehicle on southbound Harper between Huntington and Eastwood when he was shot by occupants in a separate vehicle, police said in a statement. The suspects fled the scene.

Police on Friday said the shooting occurred “early this morning” but they did not specify a time.

“(The victim) sustained several gunshot wounds but is expected to recover,” officials said. He was listed in serious condition at St. John Hospital and no other injuries were reported.

Investigators at the scene recovered multiple 9mm shell casings in the street. The victim’s vehicle, riddled with bullet holes, was impounded as evidence.

“Detectives are actively searching for the suspects involved at this time,” officials said in the statement.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (313) 343-2530 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
