Dad charged in Father’s Day shooting, injury of son
A 48-year-old Redford dad was arraigned Wednesday in 17th District Court on charges stemming from the Father’s Day shooting of his son, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office announced.
Howard B. Lowry Sr. was charged with shooting 23-year-old Marcus Ross at the family’s home around 5 p.m. Sunday. Lowry, say authorities and witnesses, had an argument with his 16-year-old son at a home in 10030 block of Mercedes in Redford that became physical. Ross intervened after seeing the father striking the younger son, according to the prosecutor’s office
Lowry allegedly went to his bedroom where he grabbed a shotgun and shot Ross once in the abdomen in the living room of the home, according to the prosecutor’s office. The victim’s 1-year-old son was standing nearby. Ross was taken to a nearby hospital where he is recovering.
Lowry was placed under arrest and has been charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder, fourth-degree child abuse, felon in possession of a firearm and felony firearm.
Judge Charlotte Wirth set bond at $1 million cash/surety. A probable cause conference is scheduled for July 5. A preliminary examination is set for July 12.
