Flight attendant raped on Detroit Metro layover
Romulus police are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect in the alleged sexual assault of an 18-year-old flight attendant who police say was attacked at the Days Inn on the 9500 block of Middlebelt.
Security photos show the suspect at the front desk of the hotel on Monday at 4:16 a.m.
The victim was dropped off at the Days Inn with co-workers via taxi.
About the same time, police say, the suspect arrived in a separate vehicle. Police say he loitered in the lobby before disappearing from view of cameras. Then he left.
Soon after, the victim reported that she was assaulted, according to police.
Police don’t know how the suspect allegedly gained entry to her room, or if any weapons were used.
Air Georgian, the flight attendant’s employer, issued a statement this week regarding the alleged incident during a layover in Romulus.
“We have reached out to the employee to offer our support, and are cooperating fully with the investigating authorities,” said Julie Mailhot, chief operating officer for Air Georgian. “As this is an active police matter, and to protect the privacy of our employee, we will be making no further statements.”
Capt. Derran Shelby of the Romulus Police Department said in the statement that the department is “asking the public to be alert, and to call us if you see someone displaying suspicious, odd, or dangerous behavior.”
The investigative services bureau can be reached at (734) 942-6879.
