Westland police are looking for a two-woman, one-man band of individuals caught on film nabbing a large delivery of hats from the Lids store at Westland Mall.

The incident occurred on July 7 at about 1:30 p.m., and much of it was caught on tape. While the man in the group distracts a clerk, one of the women slides the box out of the door with her foot, then picks it up and walks off.

Mall cameras caught footage of the box traveling through the mall and into a car in the parking lot.

The woman who grabbed the box is described as a black female, 5 foot 4 inches, about 135 pounds with short black hair. She’s seen wearing a teal shirt.

Her accomplice is a heavy-set black female, 5 foot 7 inches tall, 185-200 pounds, with black cornrows formed into two ponytails. She’s wearing the red tank top.

The man who made the distraction is a black male, 6 foot 1 inch tall, about 230 pounds with black hair. He was wearing a teal shirt with a gray “D” on it, blue jeans, white shoes, and rimless Cartier glasses with gold rims.

The value of the stolen hats is about $3,800, police say. The suspects drove off in an older model Chevy Impala with black five star rims.

Police are asking for the public’s help. Anyone who knows the identities or whereabouts is asked to call Westland police at (734) 722-9600.
