Landscapers working in Garden City made an unusual discovery Tuesday as they worked.

They found a hand grenade.

According to an alert from the Garden City police, officers responded to the scene in the area of Brown and Merriman.

Garden City police brought in the Michigan State Police bomb squad, which determined that the grenade was from the World War II era.

It was found to be harmless.

The grenade had “been neutralized and had likely been used by someone as a paper weight,” police wrote in the alert.

Police cleared the scene around 6 p.m.
