Three large boats were engulfed in flames Wednesday at the Elba-Mar Boat Club on Grosse Ile, according to the fire department.

The fire broke out around 12:25 p.m. at 28817 East River Road, Fire Chief Duncan Murdock said. There were no injuries.

“They were about 30-footers, they were all engulfed and I think they’re all totaled,” Murdock said. “But there were a good hundred or 150 boats around them so it definitely could have been much worse. And as fire chief, (no injuries) is a big thing.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Murdock added.
