Livonia Police are seeking the public’s help in tracking down a suspect who authorities say grabbed and assaulted a woman while she was jogging along Edward Hines Drive on Sunday.

Police say the 28-year-old woman was jogging eastbound on a bicycle path west of Levan around 7:25 p.m. when she was approached by the suspect who had been walking westbound on the path. As she tried to pass, the man wrapped his arm around her neck and struck her in the side of the face, the woman told police.

The suspect struggled with the victim and tried to drag her toward the Rouge River. He then tried to remove the woman’s clothing and told her that he wanted to have sex with her.

The victim was able to fight off the man, who fled the scene eastbound on foot.

A passing motorist came to the woman’s aid and called 911 to report the assault. Officers searched the area at the time, but were unable to locate the suspect.

Police say the man is black, 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds with a muscular build, short dark hair and was clean shaven. He is 28 to 30 years old. The man was wearing a tight-fitting black or gray compression style shirt and dark colored cargo shorts.

Anyone with information should contact Livonia Police Department at (734) 466-2470.
