A 6- and a 7-year-old girl are both in critical condition after their mother, 30, allegedly crashed her Dodge Neon into an SUV Sunday night in Highland Park.

The crash took place about 9:45 p.m. on Hamilton and ended with both children in the hospital and their mother under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, said Marli Blackman, a spokeswoman for Highland Park.

They were not wearing seat belts, Blackman said.

Both girls were “severely injured” in the crash and tossed around within the car. The 7-year-old had her face cut and lost all of her teeth, Blackman said.

The woman, who hails from Detroit, is expected to be arraigned Monday morning, Blackman said, and has prior DUIs on her record.
