The parents of a 3-year-old Inkster boy who died last week of blunt-force trauma have been charged in the child’s death, said a statement from the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

Aurelio Smith, 41, and girlfriend Andrea Bracy, 21, are both charged with felony murder, torture and first-degree child abuse, the statement said, and are expected to be arraigned at 2:30 p.m. Monday before Judge Sabrina Johnson at 22nd District Court.

The couple is accused of assaulting 3-year-old Tyme Smith about 2 a.m. Thursday in their apartment on the 1550 block of Inkster Road.

Hours later, authorities say, the couple took the boy to a local hospital for treatment. That morning, Inkster police were called to the hospital and took Smith and Bracy into custody.

Tyme Smith died at 11:10 a.m. Thursday from his injuries, the result of blunt-force trauma. The Wayne County Medical Examiner ruled the boy’s death a homicide.
