Student held after claim of gun prompts lockdown
A Grosse Pointe South High School student was taken into custody Tuesday after allegedly stating they had a gun in their backpack, school officials said.
The comment resulted in a school lockdown around 3 p.m. No gun was found, officials said.
“The teacher who overheard the statement followed our emergency protocol,” officials said in a statement Tuesday. “Police were notified and responded quickly.”
The student, whose gender and age were not immediately available, was taken into police custody.
The district released students at 3:25 p.m.
The district and police are investigating, said Rebecca Fannon, district spokeswoman.
