Canton Township police were searching for a hit-and-run driver involved in a three-vehicle crash that resulted in the deaths of two pedestrians on Michigan Avenue at Lotz Road on Sunday evening.

A 54-year-old Westland resident and a 45-year-old Inkster resident were crossing the eastbound lanes of Michigan Avenue when the older man was struck by what witnesses described as a dark blue or black 2013 to 2016 Dodge Caravan, or similar vehicle, which fled the accident. He was subsequently hit by Buick Lacrosse, which stopped at the scene.

The 45-year-old pedestrian was then stuck by a Ford Expedition, which also remained at the scene. The 54-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. The 45-year-old was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Livonia, where he later died.

Sgt. Greg DeGrand said names of the victims were not being released pending notification of relatives.

DeGrand said police were seeking the public’s help in locating the dark-colored Caravan, which could have significant front-end damage.

Police said the driver briefly exited the vehicle before leaving the scene. He was described as 30 to 36 years old, clean-shaven with short black hair, wearing a black or dark-colored suit with a red tie.

Witnesses or those who may have information on the identity of the driver are asked to call the Canton Township Police Department at (734) 394-5400.
