The evacuation of several businesses in downtown Plymouth has been lifted following a gas main break Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

According to Consumers Energy, a contractor struck a 2-inch plastic gas main around 4 p.m. near the Plymouth Post Office on Penniman. The gas was shut off by 5:05 p.m., said Roger Morgenstern, a spokesman for the utility.

There were no injuries and the break has been repaired, he said.

Crews were working Tuesday evening to restore gas service for the five customers who were affected.
