Highland Park girl drowns in Chicago area pool
A Highland Park girl visiting the Chicago area for a cheerleading competition died Saturday after being found unresponsive in a hotel pool, authorities said.
At about 5:53 p.m. Saturday, police and fire officials in the south of Chicago suburb of Alsip, Illinois responded to a call about a girl being found unresponsive in a pool at the Double Tree Hotel at 5000 W. 127th Street. Authorities learned that the girl was in town for a cheerleading competition.
Emergency responders took the girl to the Advocate Christ Medical Care hospital in Oak Lawn, but at 6:37 p.m. she died, according to Alsip Police Department.
The Cook County Medical Examiner indetified the girl as Adriana Douglas.
While Alsip police say the girl who died was 10 years old, the Cook County Medical Examiner says she was 9 years old. Cause and manner of death are expected to be released later Sunday, a spokeswoman for the medical examiner's office said.
Police do not suspect foul play.
