Dearborn police released video footage of a jewelry store robbery Wednesday and announced a $1,000 reward for tips that lead to three people connected to the theft.

The three men entered the business near Warren and Schaefer at about 1 p.m., police said in a statement.

They appeared to be browsing the merchandise “but then produced a handgun and struck the employee.”

Surveillance footage shows two of the men, both with their heads covered, surrounding the worker and roughly handling him while a third heads elsewhere in the store.

“During the assault the suspects smashed several display cases, taking numerous items,” investigators said.

The suspects then left in an older-model red Chevrolet Cavalier convertible from 1995 to 2002.

The business owner had non-life threatening injuries and was treated at a hospital.

“Crimes of this nature are particularly disturbing because the suspects showed no regard for the safety of the employee,” Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said. “Crimes like this will not be tolerated. We are urging the public to come forward with information regarding this incident.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Dearborn Police Department at (313) 943-2240. Anonymous tips can also be left through Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
