Westland police are investigating the first and second homicides of the year after a call of shots fired led them to two slain victims, killed in what police believe to be a drug-related incident gone wrong.

The 911 call came in just before 3 a.m., said Sgt. Robert Wilkie, spokesman for the Westland Police Department. When police arrived at Norene and Treadwell — south of Palmer, east of Newburgh — they found one victim fatally shot. A check of the area revealed a second victim.

The victims are 19 and 35-year-old Westland residents who lived in the neighborhood, Wilkie said.

Evidence recovered from the scene “would lead us to believe it was narcotics-related,” Wilkie said. No arrests have yet been made and no suspect descriptions were offered.
