A single shot rang out; moments later, a man was running the streets, looking for help after being shot in the hand. Just 15 minutes later, his roommate and the alleged shooter was under arrest.

A camera is seen here in the windshield of a police cruiser.

The shot was fired at about 5:40 a.m., police said, in the 900 block of Moran in Lincoln Park.  Neighbors heard the shot and heard the victim, a 34-year-old man, yell as he ran toward the gas station on the corner, police said. The 900 block of Moran is south of Emmons and east of Fort Street.

When police arrived, they found a man who’d been shot in the hand. Eventually he would be transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital, but not before telling police that his roommate, a 36-year-old man, had shot him.

Officers went to the victim’s home and were able to arrest the roommate less than 15 minutes after the shot was fired. He’s in a cell at the Lincoln Park Police Department, and a warrant request will be headed to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. The suspect won’t be arraigned until at least Tuesday, on account of Monday falling on Presidents Day.

As to the circumstances that led to the shooting, department spokeswoman Colleen Snethkamp said “that’s to be determined.”
