An off-duty Wayne County deputy sheriff faces up to 15 years in prison for a fatal car crash last fall in Lincoln Park, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

Matthew John Doss, 36, has been charged with reckless driving causing death. He is expected to turn himself at 10:30 a.m. Monday for an arraignment in 25th District Court in Lincoln Park, officials said.

According to officials, around 10:25 p.m. Oct. 23, 2016, Doss was allegedly speeding when his truck hit another vehicle in the area of Dix and Detroit Avenue in Lincoln Park. Severely injured in the crash was Henry Lowe, a 56-year-old Lincoln Park man, who was seated in the front passenger seat of his friend’s vehicle.

Lowe was transported to a hospital where he died the following day, officials said.

The Downriver Crash Response Team conducted an investigation that revealed Doss was allegedly speeding at the time of the crash.
