A 23-year-old man has been charged in the May 1 shooting of a 7-year-old girl on Detroit’s west side, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office announced Wednesday.

Jervonie Deandre Martin, a Detroit man, faces several charges: three counts of assault with intent to murder, one count of discharge at or in a building causing injury, and one count of felony firearm. He was given a $400,000 bond at his arraignment, which took place Wednesday, and is due back in court on June 28 at 9 a.m.

Shots were fired into the upstairs flat of a home on the 2900 block of Monterey about 11:15 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, police said. The girl was sleeping on a couch with her grandmother when a bullet struck her in the cheek. She was treated at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, but has since been released and is recovering from her injuries, the prosecutor’s statement Wednesday said.

Police attributed the shooting to a dispute between adults in the neighborhood.
