Westland Police have arrested a 31-year-old Redford Township man for stealing lottery tickets, officials said.

The man has not yet been arraigned on several charges in connection with the crime, including larceny and fleeing and eluding police, according to authorities.

Police said the man stole a large display case filled with lottery tickets from the Westland Party Store at 27830 Warren Road near Inkster Road.

An officer who saw the suspect drive away from the store attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver refused to comply and police gave chase, authorities said.

The pursuit ended when the suspect’s vehicle crashed into a Detroit Police patrol vehicle in the 9100 block of Winthrop about eight miles from where it started.

The Detroit officer's condition isn’t known at this time, but didn’t appear to have been seriously injured, Westland Police said in a statement.

They also said the suspect tried to steal a lottery ticket display case in Garden City about 15 minutes before the Westland incident.
