Highland Park Police Department is investigating after two passengers on a Detroit Department of Transportation bus were hit by gunfire Wednesday morning. 

Nicole Simmons, a spokeswoman for the Detroit Department of Transportation, said the shooting took place about 10:35 a.m., and hit a southbound bus on the Hamilton route. A vehicle in the area was spotted firing shots, at least two of which hit passengers, she said. A more detailed description was not available.

One passenger, a male, was grazed in his leg and treated at the scene. A second passenger, a woman, was hit in her upper body and was transported to Henry Ford Hospital, Simmons said. 

No suspect description was immediately available.

A spokeswoman for the city of Highland Park said police will handle the investigation from here. Initial information had it that one victim was shot.
