Westland Police are asking the public for help to identify the driver of a vehicle that fled after striking a bicyclist.

Officials said Thursday the incident happened at 11:30 p.m. on Superbowl Sunday, Feb. 4 on Newburgh Road near Marquette.

The bicyclist was traveling south on Newburgh when he was struck from behind by a vehicle, police said.

The vehicle failed to stop and continued south on Newburgh, they said.

The bicyclist sustained a broken back and a broken leg in the crash, according to authorities.

Investigators have determined the vehicle is a black, 2008 or later Lincoln MKZ. They believe it has damage to the front passenger side bumper and a missing chrome-colored passenger side mirror.

Anyone with information about the incident or the driver of the vehicle should call the Westland Police Traffic Bureau at (734) 722-9633.
