The Michigan Humane Society is offering a $2,500 reward for tips to find someone accused of leaving a puppy wrapped in plastic in Detroit.

A passerby found the tiny canine with dark fur Friday on a sidewalk on the city’s northwest side and alerted the Humane Society, the group said in a statement on its Facebook page.

The wrapping covered most of the pooch, believed to be a male German shepherd mix younger than a year old, said Anna Chrisman, a spokeswoman for the nonprofit. A rescue team transported him to its Detroit center for medical treatment.

“... We’re hoping he makes it through the night,” the Facebook post read. “Please keep him in your thoughts throughout the weekend.”

Meanwhile, an investigative team canvassed the neighborhood seeking leads in connection with the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK-UP or MHS at (313) 872-3401.
