Dearborn police have a suspect in custody in connection with the fatal shooting of a 37-year-old resident on Friday. 

At 8 p.m, officers responded to the area of Whittington and Canterbury Street on reports of an injured individual. 

Upon arriving at the scene, a man was found in the street with an apparent gunshot wound. 

Rescue personnel responded but the victim succumbed to his injuries. 

On Saturday, Dearborn police said with the help of Michigan State Police and Lenawee County Sheriff's Office they arrested a 38-year-old Westland resident as a suspect. 

Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said the investigation is still ongoing and stated, "Crimes of this magnitude are extremely rare in the City of Dearborn and the loss of life in this incident is profoundly tragic."
