Man charged in Dearborn homicide

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Robert Gonzalez, 39, with the murder of a 37-year-old Dearborn man who was found fatally shot on the street last Friday.

Gonzalez faces one count of first-degree murder, one count of felony firearm and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The victim is a 37-year-old man identified as Ismaeel Abdulla.

Friday at 8 p.m, officers responded to the area of Whittington and Canterbury Street on reports of an injured individual. 

Upon arriving at the scene, a man was found in the street with a gunshot wound. Rescue personnel responded but the victim succumbed to his injuries. 

The next day, Gonzalez, a Westland man, was caught. Police say he and Abdulla were acquaintances.

At his arraignment in 19th District Court in Dearborn, Judge Sam Salamey ordered Gonzalez held at the Wayne County Jail without bond. 

Gonzalez is due back in court for his probable cause conference at 9 a.m. on March 9, and for his preliminary exam at 9 a.m. on March 16.
