An Inkster mother was charged Friday with shooting her teenage son, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Ebonie Schofield, 37, is charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm, careless discharge of a weapon causing injury or death and felony firearm. She is expected to be arraigned after 11 a.m. Saturday in 34th District Court in Romulus.

According to the prosecutor’s office, about 8 a.m. Thursday, Schofield and her 16-year-old son were arguing and shoved each other in their apartment in the 630 block of Tobin Drive.

The woman made the teen leave the apartment, and while he was outside banging on the door, Schofield shot him in the left shoulder with a handgun, authorities allege.

The son was taken to a hospital for treatment of his wound. The defendant was taken into custody. The case was investigated by the Inkster Police Department, assisted by the Michigan State Police.
