Belleville High closed due to threat

The Detroit News

Belleville High School, part of Van Buren Public Schools, is closed Tuesday due to a threat that was phoned to police, the district announced on its Facebook page.

"Belleville High School will be closed tomorrow, 3/13, due to a threat against the school being called to 911," the post reads. "All other schools are open. We will be prosecuting when caught. If you know anything related to this threat, please contact Belleville police."

The district's other schools, though, are open, which prompted several posters to the Van Buren Public School's Facebook page to ask why the district didn't close all the schools. Other posters said they wouldn't send their kids to school Tuesday.

In the month since 17 people were killed in a school shooting in Parkland, Florida, a number of schools in Metro Detroit have faced threats via phone or social media, including: South LyonPlymouth-Canton, UticaDetroit (including one allegedly made by a 26-year-old man), Novi, Melvindale and Sterling Heights
