Man turns self in after escaping Highland Park custody
Police said a man who escaped Highland Park police custody on Saturday turned himself in on Wednesday.
Police said Joseph Ivan Gray, 37, turned himself into the Detroit Police Department 12th precinct around 1 p.m. Wednesday.
"He said he saw his photo all over the media and wanted to turn himself in," Detective Brian Menge said.
Gray was taken into custody Saturday in connection with the Nov. 3 death of a man in Highland Park.
While being held in the homicide investigation, police said Gray was being treated for an injury when he walked away from the emergency room.
Oliver Olds had been dead for three to four days when he was found in an apartment building at 1155 W. McNichols, Menge said. The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide.
