Free bridge to Grosse Ile to close for repairs

The Detroit News

The Wayne County bridge connecting Grosse Ile to the mainland is slated to be closed for repairs starting Tuesday, township officials announced.

The Wayne County Bridge, often referred to as the free Grosse Ile bridge, closes at 9:30 a.m. to traffic, including emergency, the township said in a statement.

The closure could be in place for the rest of the week, according to the release.

Drivers can use the Grosse Ile Toll Bridge to the north. One-way crossing toll fares are $2 for a bridge pass, $2.50 in cash or $3.50 credit card charge to use with a one-axle vehicle (car, SUV, van, pickup or motorcycle). The fees are higher for commercial and other vehicles.

Wayne County Department of Public Services representatives did not immediately respond to a request for more information.

Other details were expected to be announced by Tuesday. Updates will be posted on the Grosse Ile Connect App, Facebook, and AM Radio 1700.
