A 47-year-old Highland Park man, Jimmie Young, faces charges of second-degree murder and felony firearm in the Saturday morning shooting death of his girlfriend, a woman in her 40s whose identity has not yet been released.

At 2 a.m. May 5, Highland Park police responded to a reported shooting on the 120 block of East Grand, which is north of Davison and east of John R.

Police say the suspect shot the woman in her groin in front of the home. She died from her injuries. The couple had been fighting.

Police quickly took the suspect into custody, said Marli Blackman, spokeswoman for the city. The suspect did not deny shooting the woman, Blackman said.

Court records identify Young as the suspect. At his arraignment, Young was given a bond of $500,000. He is being Wayne County Jail.
