Shooting suspect dead; Dearborn hospital lockdown ends
Officials have lifted a lockdown at Beaumont Hospital Dearborn that was sparked by a shooting off-site.
The suspect is dead, and police continue to investigate the incident, hospital representatives said on Twitter just before 11 p.m.
Police had pursued the shooter to the hospital on Oakwood Boulevard on Wednesday night, prompting the lockdown, spokeswoman Paula Rivera-Kerr said.
One person connected to the incident was being treated at the hospital’s emergency department, she said. Their condition and other details were not immediately available.
Dearborn police confirmed the shooting suspect had died but would not release other information. Officers remained on the scene after 11 p.m. Police cars blocked off at least one intersection outside the campus.
News of the lockdown prompted shock across social media.
“What in the world??!!” one user wrote on Twitter. “...Please pray.”
Another tweeted: “Just chillin watchin tv and I check Facebook and I see Beaumont Dearborn’s on lockdown for an active shooter. My heart sank. But my momma called and said she’s safe.”
