Man charged in girlfriend's death at MGM Grand
A 33-year-old St. Clair Shores man was charged Friday in connection with the death of his 27-year-old girlfriend, whose lifeless body was found earlier this week in a hotel room at the MGM Grand Casino, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said.
Daniel S. Michalak was arraigned in 36th District Court in the death of Tia Marie Vellucci of Davison. Michalak has been charged with assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to maim, and assault with intent to do great bodily harm.
According to the prosecutor's office, Detroit Police received information leading them to check room 408 at the casino hotel around 12:40 p.m. Tuesday. Officers found Vellucci on the floor with numerous stab wounds and a bite wound to her nose.
The case remains under investigation and authorities are awaiting forensics testing and a report from the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Michalak was scheduled for a probable cause hearing June 15 and a preliminary exam June 22, both in 36th District Court.
