Grosse Pointe Park police are investigating a smash and grab at a bar in which thieves stole an automatic teller machine.

Stephen Poloni, director of the city's Public Safety Department, said the theft happened at about 1:56 a.m. Friday at the Howlers and Growlers Bar & Fill Station on Charlevoix Avenue near Beaconsfield Avenue.

Police received a call from the business' security alarm company as well as a 911 call about a break-in.

The incident was captured on the bar's security surveillance system and detectives are reviewing the footage, he said.

Poloni said the video shows a panel van smashing into the bar's front entrance twice. Once the van broke through the front door and windows, two people exited the vehicle and entered the premises, he said.

Then they took the ATM and loaded it into the van.

"They were in the building for 23 seconds and the whole operation took under two minutes," he said.

It was unknown how much cash was inside the ATM.

The bar's owners said on Facebook the pub will still be open this weekend despite the damage from the theft.

"Unfortunately, we experienced a break in early this morning," they posted on their Facebook page. "We may look a little bandaged, but don’t worry...we will still be open this weekend! Can’t keep a good man (or bar) down! Come on in, have a beer, and show your support."
