The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office has charged Thomas Lane, a 57-year-old Flat Rock man, in a double homicide from late March, during which he allegedly killed his sister and brother-in-law at their home.

It was about 1:20 p.m. on March 31 when Flat Rock police responded to a 911 call on the 24000 block of Chinook, where two people who were found fatally shot. The scene is in the Deerfield Estates subdivision, north of Vreeland and east of Telegraph.

Officers arrived to find a 56-year-old man, Mark Allan Harris, and a 59-year-old woman, Catherine Anne Markowski, dead. Detectives were notified and law enforcement was alerted to be on the lookout for the victims' vehicle, a Mercury Montego.

Four hours after the 911 call, at about 5:40 p.m., Michigan State Police and Customs Border Patrol located the vehicle in Trenton and took Lane into custody.

Lane was charged with the murders on Friday, court records show. He was arraigned Tuesday in 33rd District Court in Woodhaven and scheduled for a probable cause conference at 8:30 a.m. July 10.

He has been jailed since April, though, on several charges, including three counts of felony firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of weapons and ammunition by a felon.

In that case, he was given bond of $250,000; in the murder case he was denied bond.
