Wayne County sheriff's reservist charged in fatal crash

A 58-year-old Wayne County sheriff's reserve officer was charged Tuesday in connection with a weekend vehicle crash that killed a 30-year-old Detroit man.

Michael L. Davis of Detroit was driving his truck at Grand River and Meyers on Detroit's west side around 11:30 p.m. Saturday when he allegedly Daniel Starks, who was riding a motorcycle.

Starks died of multiple injuries at a nearby hospital. Davis allegedly exhibited slurred speech and had a flask in the front cup holder in his vehicle, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's office. He was arrested at the scene.

Davis was charged with operating under the influence causing death, a 15-year felony; reckless driving cause death, a 15-year felony; moving violation causing death, a misdemeanor, and weapons/firearms possession while under the influence, another misdemeanor.

Davis was arraigned Tuesday in 36th District Court before Magistrate Millicent Sherman. He is scheduled for a probable cause conference at 8:30 a.m. July 3 and a preliminary examination at 9 a.m. July 10, both before Judge Kenneth King.
