The driver of a semi-tractor and trailer is OK after his semi careened off a freeway in Plymouth Township, went down an embankment and caught fire early Thursday.

Michigan State Police are handling the crash investigation. Via Twitter, Lt. Mike Shaw said that at about 4:45 a.m., the semi was traveling on southbound 275 when the driver left the road, passed through the median, and landed onto Schoolcraft.

The driver escaped before the semi caught fire, and police believe his injuries are only minor. Why the semi left the roadway is unknown in the early stage of the investigation.
