A 46-year-old Grosse Pointe Park man died early Thursday morning in what police believe is a single-vehicle crash involving a scooter.

The crash was called in just after 3:15 a.m. when someone saw the man on the ground, unresponsive, said John Kosanke, director of public safety for Grosse Pointe Woods. This was in the area of Morningside and Sunningdale, north of Lochmoor Boulevard and west of Lakeshore Drive.

The victim had been riding a scooter without a helmet when he crashed, Kosanke said.

Officers and medics tried to resuscitate the man, but he died by 3:40 a.m.
