Detroit officer taken to hospital after crash on I-96

A Detroit police officer was taken to the hospital Friday after a crash on Interstate 96, police said.
The officer was on duty on a motorcycle when the crash occurred on eastbound I-96 near Outer Drive at 4 p.m., Sgt. Nicole Kirkwood said.
Michigan State Police said the motorcycle left the roadway and struck a cement wall. The officer sustained major injuries to his leg. He was taken to Sinai Grace Hospital.
Shortly before 5 p.m., local lanes of eastbound I-96 were closed at Evergreen Road, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.
