Judge in cop killing case discloses she's married to an officer
During an arraignment Tuesday for an alleged cop killer, a Wayne County judge said she is married to a police officer and set a hearing Friday for the defendant's attorney to decide if he wants another judge to hear the case.
Judge Cynthia Gray Hathaway of Wayne County Circuit Court disclosed her marriage during the hearing for Decharlos Brooks, who is charged with first-degree murder and other felonies in the Jan. 24 shooting of Detroit officer Glenn Doss.
Doss, 25, was among the officers responding to a call from someone -- believed to be Brooks -- involved in a domestic violence incident at a residence in the 5500 block of McDougall, near Interstate 94 and Chene Street.
A not-guilty plea was entered Tuesday on behalf of Brooks, 43. He previously underwent a competency examination in February to determine if he was mentally able to stand trial.
Brooks was bound over for trial during a hearing July 10. No trial date has been set.
