The Wayne County Airport Authority Board has appointed Chad Newton as interim CEO, the authority announced Wednesday.

Newton, who had been the organization's vice president of public safety, will replace current interim CEO Genelle Allen.

Allen will return to her permanent role as Wayne County's chief operating officer on Friday.

Newton is a veteran of the U.S. Army and a former deputy sheriff in Wayne County, the authority said in a release. Since 1999, he's been working in public safety at the police department for Metro and Willow Run airports, advancing to vice president of public safety.

“We appreciate Genelle’s contributions to the Airport Authority over the last six months,” said Wayne County Airport Authority Board Chair Michael Garavaglia. “She stepped in when we needed her and made a positive impact on our team.”

Both Metro Airport and the Willow Run Airport are under the authority's purview.

The board chair said of Newton that his "extensive knowledge of our industry, combined with his professional credentials, make him a valuable asset to our organization.”
