Detroit police officer charged with driving drunk off-duty
A Detroit police officer was charged Monday with driving drunk while off-duty.
Samuel Anderson, 24, was allegedly driving his personal vehicle while under the influence of alcohol around 11:11 p.m. Saturday when police were dispatched to a car accident near Grand River and Cass Avenue near downtown Detroit.
While investigating the accident, police noticed damage to Anderson's car. It's alleged that Anderson was under the influence and that he had his department-issued handgun on him.
Anderson was arrested while another driver involved in the incident drove away before police arrived.
Anderson was charged with one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and one count of possession of a weapon while intoxicated.
He was expected to be arraigned Monday afternoon in 36th District Court.
