Flat Rock man to stand trial in slayings of his sister, her husband

A Flat Rock man was ordered Tuesday to stand trial in connection with the slayings of his sister and her husband.

Thomas Lane Jr., 57, was bound over for trial following his preliminary examination on charges of murdering his sister Catherine Markowski and her husband, Mark Harris, at the couple's Flat Rock home.

The victims' bodies were discovered around 1:30 p.m. March 31 at their residence in the 24800 block of Chinook Court by Flat Rock police. The sister and her husband had gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Lane had been living with his sister and her husband for months. He allegedly fled in the couple's car after the shooting. Lane was arrested a few hours later by Michigan State Police. A handgun was confiscated from the car. 

 Lane is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of fleeing and eluding and firearm offenses.

His arraignment on information in Wayne County Circuit Court is scheduled for 9 a.m. July 31.
