Two construction workers were injured Downriver in a three-vehicle crash Wednesday on Interstate 75, officials say.

Michigan State Police say the incident happened at 3:45 p.m. while road workers were on northbound I-75 near Allen Road in Southgate.

Police said the two were struck in a traffic crash involving three vehicles. Both workers were transported by ambulance to a hospital.

One worker was in critical condition; the other worker had non-life threatening injuries, according to MSP.

Troopers haven't released information about the cause of the crash.

In June, a 22-year-old woman was arraigned in the death of a 57-year-old construction worker and injured another in a work zone on northbound I-75 near Warren Avenue.

Charges for operating a vehicle causing death and careless driving in a work zone each are punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
