Remains have been found in a neighborhood near Saltz and Canton Center, according to Canton Public Safety Department.

The Canton Police Department's investigation into remains found Monday afternoon in the city's sewer system is ongoing, but police believe the victim is a man who had been reported missing, and that he had committed suicide.

The remains were found in a neighborhood near Saltz and Canton Center roads. A crew from the Department of Public Works notified police of the found remains.

Police said from the start that foul play was not suspected, and now say it's possible the man intended to kill himself.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office examined the remains, police said, but has not yet issued an official identification. Police have been in contact with the missing man's family.
