A $1,000 reward was announced Thursday to find a man accused of leading a crime crew targeting businesses across the Midwest.

Investigators believe Deaire Deshawn Brown operates a Detroit-based group that has jumped pharmacy counters at stores in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin to steal bottles of liquid promethazine to resell on the street, Crime Stoppers of Michigan officials said in a statement. Promethazine can be used as a sedative, antihistamine or for nausea.

The operation has been linked to 78 thefts so far this year at CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, Walmart, Sam's Club, Kroger and Meijer as well as smaller, independent retailers, according to the release.

"They have used no weapons, and have used minimal force, at most bumping into the pharmacist," Crime Stoppers said. "They also switch up vehicles on almost every theft."

Brown is described as a 24-year-old man, 6-foot-2 and 145 pounds.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts can anonymously reach Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP or www.1800speakup.org
