The Wayne County Commission has appointed County Commissioner Al Haidous, D-Wayne, to the Wayne County Airport Authority Board of Directors, officials said Friday.

The commission voted unanimously Thursday to name Haidous to the board, which is responsible for managing operations at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport and Willow Run Airport.

“Commissioner Haidous brings to the position a wealth of experience on transportation issues as well as knowledge of both airports, which are located in his commission district,” Wayne County Commission Chairman Gary Woronchak, D-Dearborn, said in a statement.

Haidous will serve a six-year term, which expires Oct. 1, 2024, on the seven-member board. The board's other members are appointed by the Wayne County Executive and the governor.

He represents the 11th District, which includes Belleville, Romulus, Wayne and a portion of Westland, along with Huron, Sumpter and Van Buren townships. He was first elected to the county commission in 2014.
